The Mutant Ape Yacht Club, or simply MAYC, is a set of 20,000 NFTs inspired by the apes in the BAYC or Bored Ape Yacht Club. These two collections both came from the company Yuga Labs. This is why you shouldn’t be surprised if you notice the Mutants and the Bored Apes sharing a few similar traits. Token holders of these two collections enjoy a lot of the same benefits, sharing the same Discord channel and community.
MAYC collection was introduced several months after BAYC, its predecessor, which was rolled out in April 2021.

The Mutant Ape Yacht Club at a Glance
The NFT project Mutant Ape Yacht Club is an extension of the Bored Ape Yacht Club. Yuga Clubs developed it in August 2021 as a way of expanding the ecosystem of BAYC, inviting new members to be part of the community.
Their goal was to provide more people the chance to earn tokens and at the same time, offer rewards in the form of a brand new NFT to the current holders of Bored Ape. MAYC is one of the market’s priciest NFT collections whose average price is $24.42K.
20,000 digital art pieces make up the MAYC NFT collection, which is double the quantity of the earlier BAYC collection. To be a part of the community, you can either buy the Bored Ape NFTs and mutate them by offering a serum or you can also directly purchase a Mutant NFT.

Every Mutant has some features that set it apart from the rest. The NFT will come with a higher price if the features are rarer. Only 0.4% of the Mutants, for example, have the M2 Stunt Jacket feature. It means that NFTs with this attribute will be more expensive than the rest of the ecosystem’s Mutant Apes.
How Does Mutant Ape Yacht Club Work?
You can become a MAYC NFT owner in two ways. The first one is to purchase a Mutant ape, and the second one is to use the Mutant Serum on the existing Bored Ape to create your own Mutant Ape. The public sale saw the release of 10,000 Mutant Apes while another 10,000 mutant vials were airdropped at random to current BAYC holders.

You can develop a maximum of three Mutant Ape NFTs if you’re a holder of the Bored Ape Yacht Club. You just need to use a smart contract so you can apply M3, M2, and M1 serums to your current Bored Ape. There’s also no need to worry since the mutation process won’t destroy your original BAYC NFT. It means you’ll get to become the proud owner of MAYC and BAYC NFTs.
Is the Mutant Ape Yacht Club Worth the Investment?
While investments in the MAYC and being part of the community do offer a long list of perks, it’s still important to remember that not everyone is cut out for it. There is an extremely high threshold to be part of the club and this is why experts advise against buying it if you’re just an average investor. Investing in these NFTs is something that only suits those who are wealthy enough to endure a loss if ever that happens.
