Believe it or not, it’s not always an NFT that is considered the most noteworthy thing in the world of non-fungible tokens. Just this weekend, a nugget of blockchain history was discovered when internet sleuths unearthed the first-ever documented financial transaction on the first blockchain of the world.
A user name Sabunir decided to try Bitcoin in January 2010. As a part of a test, Sabunir sold a digital picture in Bitcoin worth US$1.
Was this considered the first NFT sale in the world? Well, not really. However, this is the best example of NFTs’ use case. It preserves the ownership and provenance history of almost anything digital, and not only a jpeg.
January 24, 2010
The jpeg sale worth 500 BTC would amount to approximately US$13.7 million in the present day. If the image was tokenized as a form of NFT, this would have gone down as history’s most significant NFT to date. This image wouldn’t hold any value if it is recovered in the future.
However, if it was an NFT when it started, the world will know the original copy, and a single lucky person would have amassed wealth from it that would have lasted for generations.
BRC-20s and Bitcoin: Monthly Statistics Overview
For the past month, BRC-20s and Bitcoin Ordinals have shifted the OG blockchain to the blockchain that has the world’s second-highest volume in terms of sales. The Bitcoin NFTs are only getting started and sooner or later, it’s expected that Bitcoin will have a head-to-head competition with the all-time sales of Ethereum. There is even a possibility that they will also exceed it.
